I'm confused! I thought the Kent Test was designed to select 20%-25% for grammar places. This article quite clearly states that almost 50% passed? Anyone explain please?

Thinking about it, I'm guessing it's mainly because the vast majority of the 3,065 OOC candidates who passed will take up school places closer to home?

Thanks for this info.

Numbers passing the test is always higher than the places available, meaning not everyone passed will get a Grammar place.

Past pass rates are found here:
https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/schoo ... nt-11-plus

However, this year’s pass rate & numbers seem to be higher than previous years. Would that mean higher cut off for super selectives and reduced distance for others?

I'm guessing here but could it be that not all children sit the Kent test, therefore 46% of those taking it might have passed but that still only equates to 20% of year 6 children.

Not every child takes the 11+, so the percentage of all children will be lower.

Have added this year's scores to the one you refer to above - look at the jumps in numbers (sorry about the formatting, it won't play ball!)

Columns refer to total taking test, total in Kent who passed, total OOC passes, total passes:

2018 entry 16,656 4,641 3,065 7,706
2017 entry 15,253 4,369 2,145 6,537
2016 entry 14,486 4,282 1,966 6,259
2015 entry 13,274 4,043 1,696 5,753

No, it's definitely 46% of those taking the test...see above

I think the previous poster meant the % of the whole Year 6 cohort will be lower ... many children do not even sit the test.

These are all above the 40% mark... so a negligible difference really
