I suspect the New Line Learning you have been offered is the amalgamation of Oldborough and Senacre on the Oldborough site, page 74 of the admissions booklet. It seems a very long way for your DD to travel, especially since there are no good public transport links.

I feel for you and your DD. I hope that details of her 11+ scores will enable you to consider an appeal.

thank you Henry

off to google...but will not accept it anyway ...its 16 miles away by car......but journey for an 11 year old girl would be via a ridiculous amount of buses and trains that even I would not attempt..........unacceptable on so many levels for me! she will be 11 ....how on earth do they think she will manage that journey safely? sorry am still very very upset!

even if i had a decent car/time would I really be able to travel 32 miles a day, work AND be able to pick up my other child from school?

thank you everyone for comments and support

thank maidstone mum...I am still trying to work out the possible transport links, bus, train, train, train, bus, walk? ! I knew I shoul dhave let her have a horse!

I just looked at maps......it's the other side of maidstone to us!

I just pray they have made an error and can recitfy it, I am presuming if I appeal against this allocation it will take weeks and weeks.....but what if it IS an error does anyone know if there is a chance of getting a different allocation quickly?

The not knowing is hurting her so much, she failed medway test, now we have just sold our house and havent found another to buy yet...she has had so much upset this year already.....we just want to know where she will be going to school!

will update tomorrow but I suspect KCC will not be that much help....any ideas on what to say other than the distance and impossible to get to ?

thanks

Hello
I suspect (but don't know) that "choices" 4-7 were other schools at which KCC tried to find a place for your child in preference to NLL.

As others have said, there are 3 NLL schools forming a federation in South Maidstone. They have just been designated as academies and large amounts are to be spent on completely rebuilding the schools. Part of the costs of this are to be met by selling the Senacre site and locating both Senacre and Oldborough Manor schools on the Oldborough sites. The schools will still be seperate, although they will share some facilities.

The third, largest, school in the federation is Cornwallis. Although this is a secondary modern it has GCSE results above the national average, despite (I believe) children taking them all in year 10. This school is usually oversubscribed.

The 3 schools all have different specialisms, with Cornwallis being the most academic. Oldborough was struggling a couple of years ago, with the second lowest GCSE results in the county (I think) and it also featured in a newspaper list of the 10 schools with the highest truancy rates in England.... No doubt the academy move is intended to address this. In the meantime it is heavily undersubscribed and therefore the school to which children in our area (10 miles away) have traditionally been asigned if their chosen schools were unavailable. I gather it is good with some AEN children but would have been unwilling to send my children there.

I cannot believe that in a low birthrate year this is the closest appropriate school for your child. I'm sure that you won't end up there; you just need to decide where you want and appeal. I bet KCC will be expecting you to do so (if they think). In the meantime it might be an idea to contact NLL and see if you can chose which of their 3 schools your child is down for.

thank you kent99, the issue for me is the distance and the impossible journey that would mean for DD, we will not accept the place no matter what so little point in contacting them.

32 miles a day by at least 2 buses and 2 trains..probably more as it seems to be other side of maidstone!

I take you point about the preferences 4-7 though...good point I missed in my anger and despair!

kentmedwayborder i agree with Belinda. This is not even an option for your daughter. Surely your primary head will see you today to discuss your options? I am thinking of you both x.
