Grammar schools for boys in Maidstone

Post by Tobegreat »

DS has passed 11 plus with an overall score of greater than 360. We live in one of the Maidstone Villages and we now need to make a choice about which Grammar.

Does anyone have children already at MGS or Oakwood Park. What do you think of them and is one more suited for a particular type of child?

Is anyone thinking of sending their children to either of the schools and what has swayed DS/your decision?

Have you looked around either of the schools? We loved mgs but oakwood just didn't have the same kind of feel about it.

Yes, we have looked around both but can't decide. They both have good and bad points.

Interested to know what made others come to a decision.

Hmm interesting

We looked around both schools on their open days and their working days and have to say Oakwood stood out for us . It’s really a matter of personal opinion but we felt MGS had a stilted atmosphere which was not as welcoming . The teachers did not welcome us into the classrooms - for us it seemed more transparent at Oakwood. They had the attitude “come in and see exactly what we are about “

..... [edited by moderator] I believe MGS used to have the lead on results / progress ( and used to admit higher scoring children ) but after shocking 2018 GCSE results , has drawn level.

We think we are now heading towards relying on how our son feels and he felt more inspired by the ethos at Oakwood.

It would be nice to know how others feel as we are still on the fence !

Hi JannJ

What did you go for in the end - Oakwood or MGS?
