Re: Raw Scores Thread 2019
Age standardisation does not directly compare your child with a "few months younger kid", but with children born in the same month. Statistically the children born in your child's birth month obviously performed far better than the statistical analysis for those younger children born in another month (who are as much as 6 months younger) and the standardisation has ironed out that difference. Age standardisation is one of the fairest ways of allowing for differences between acquisition of knowledge in young children up to the age of 11. An acquisition, which markedly decreases with age, so it is fair in many ways.Getgoingmom wrote:DD is 10 year 11 months

5 marks lost for each wrong math question in comparison to few months younger kids doesn't seem fair in any ways

Glad you got a good result - do stay around and as you feel you have benefitted then perhaps you could help others in future years?Magnet wrote:409

English was always my sons weaker subject , specifically comprehension . We focused on that more than anything else , having read others advice on here . It paid off and shocked him to score more than maths.
Re: Raw Scores Thread 2019
Has that really happened though? Noticed that a child 10 y 4 mo a couple of posts above yours also got 132 in maths with a score of 20 - sure, there's a point difference in the raw scores but it's very similar and that's a 7 month gap. The others seem roughly in line as well, for higher and lower scores. And 407 is a brilliant score, should think that gives you your pick of schools that go on score.Getgoingmom wrote:DD is 10 year 11 months

This seems to be a recurring theme every year. Children who have logical mathematical brains, sometimes struggle on questions requiring interpretation. We used 10 minute comprehension tests and learned which questions required direct or implied answers. We also learned to read the text twice, keep referring back to it and spend any spare time checking answers. It was time well spent for a girl who always excelled at maths, but was not taught regular comprehension at school.Magnet wrote:English was always my sons weaker subject , specifically comprehension . Re: Raw Scores Thread 2019
I'm not even sure that it's a good idea to publish raw scores because it can be demoralising when the same scores yield massive differences when standardized. For instance the child who is 11 got 21 questions correct in the English test resulting in a standardised score of 123. On the contrary the 10 yr 2mth old child who got less questions has a higher standardized score 18-127. At least with Bexley, ignorance has been bliss
