Boys Grammar Schools in Medway when living in Kent

Post by slim76 »

Does anyone know if you can get into a boys grammar school in medway if you live in Kent? If so, do you need a super selective score?

Lots of people living in Kent get into Holcombe Grammar.

Where in Kent are you and which school are you aiming for?

If you live in Burham, maybe. If you live in Folkestone, not so much.

Last year Holcombe offered all the way to children in Thamesmead, Orpington, etc . I think you'll be fine.

Thank you. Is it dependent on score. He got 560?

This might help (on the school's website under Prospectus and Admissions):

https://www.holcombegrammar.org.uk/wp-c ... 020-21.doc

https://www.holcombegrammar.org.uk/pros ... dmissions/

It would appear that once a DC has met the Medway or Kent 'suitable for grammar' score, then admission is by other criteria, with 'distance' coming last of 6 criteria, after siblings, feeder schools, children of staff etc.

Hi, yes I read this. That is why I'm worried as we live in Maidstone. Is there much chance or any other medway boy schools?

Hi
We have the same question - we are 6.8miles away from Sir Joseph Williamson - ds scored 617 Medway 402 Kent and hugely into mathematics. Think we will put it as preference but doubt we will get in.
Why do you not rate Oakwood or MGS just out of interest ?

Hi. Unfortunately my son didnt pass the kent test. He got a very high score but a few points under in english. We will appeal but he passed the medway test so we are considering medway grammars too. We also like joseph Williamson. Does anyone know if they go out to 6 miles and does anyone have an opinion on Holcombe grammar. I understand it went into special measures and keen to hear any positive or negative opinions.
