11+exams thoughts on if they will go ahead this year

They have to hold the exams (some of which are two rounds) and deliver results before the CAF form is due in 31st October.

So certainly in North London they will need to get on with it in September in order to have results ready for the CAF form. DG

they can always delay the CAF form until the end of December and maybe delay the NAD too

I think they might delay the exams and CAF submission if they have to. Most private schools manage with exams in January

Private schools do their own allocations so they can afford to wait until January as they do not deal with a central body.

The CAF form allocates Y7 for 93% of the schools in this country and they need the time between November and February to carry out that huge task.

By a mere accident of timing private schools have got away with doing their allocations this year but they may get caught next year. They have a whole year to make a back up plan.

September is just over 5 months away. It will be upon us before we know it.

I don't envy the state selective schools faced with the issue of what to do about September. DG

State schools have currently been told to plan to be shut until the end of May but this may be extended. The sooner everyone starts doing social isoaltion/distancing, rather than looking for ways round doing it, the sooner we will flatten the curve. They systems are all set up for schools to go ahead with testing in the Autumn, so I can't see that, if schools are open from September that this wouldn't happen as normal - possibly with a week or two delay if needed.

But we are in exceptional times and exceptional measure MIGHT have to be taken. Who thought GCSE and A-level pupils will get teacher assessed grades few days back.
Not saying stop working but be prepared for unusual circumstances - might even be online in September - who knows?

I think we might end up with that - unfair as it might sound to many people after years of preparations

This will not happen.

The schools will develop online tests that will automatically lock at the end of the time period.

Parents would need to book a slot at an online testing centre where there would be testing booths where the student would have to be alone and not with their parents.

The test would be released at the start of the time slot and locked at the end.

Using existing data to allocate grades for GCSEs and A levels is not new.

The entire A level Economics class at Eton three years ago lost their exam grade after it was revealed that their teacher set the questions for the exam and sent them to his students so they could revise with the actual questions before the exam.

So they were allocated grades based on work done during the course.

Although of course if it was marked by the same teacher............. DG

I’d also think most reputable tutors who teach in groups and mock exam providers are going to cancel lessons and planned mock exams. Certainly those mocks held by PTAs of schools won’t happen.

Any intensive courses for Easter and summer will likely go out of the window.

Quite honestly, any responsible tutor should either develop ways to teach virtually or cancel entirely.

Absolutely. Even 1-1 tuition is too much of a risk.
