According to https://www.twgsb.org.uk/269/year-7-admissions it is purely on distance to either the Sevenoaks or TW site. So someone in Petts Wood is treated as equally as someone in deeper Kent. There is no 'out of county' criteria like there is e.g. with Tonbridge.

See this thread for further discussions about TWGSB applications from Orpington and the environs. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=62296 and viewtopic.php?f=19&t=62424

I'm not sure that is the case. That page only says that the places between the two sites are allocated by distance. The oversubscription criteria for TWGSB are described by Kent County Council:

https://www.kent.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/117833/Secondary-determined-admissions-arrangements-for-community-and-voluntary-controlled-schools-2022-2023.pdf

This says that applicants within 3 miles are allocated first, then listed parishes in Kent and then everyone else. Orpington and Petts Wood would be in the lowest priority. Given the 90 extra places at the Sevenoaks extension, it is impossible to say whether they would come out as far as Petts Wood.

thanks Ora, that is helpful, I hadn't seen that so the information about the 3 mile priority zone is important, but it also means that someone who is 3 miles into deeper Kent will be treated equally as someone who is on the Kent/London borders.

I was going on what was on their admissions page at https://www.twgsb.org.uk/269/year-7-admissions which stated : "KCC will offer us 300 pupils for National Offer Day and at that point we will allocate places by distance to either the main Tunbridge Wells or the Sevenoaks site. Where it is possible we will then offer students the nearest site to their home address. We will only allocate site places once we have the list of boys to whom we are going to offer a place." which seems to imply that there is no 3 mile priority distance.

I think the two sources are potentially contradictory.

I take that to mean:

1. First, Kent County Council will allocate 300 pupils to the school according to the oversubscribed criteria - first all the applicants within 3 miles, then all the applicants in the specified parishes in Kent, and finally the out of county applicants until all 300 places are allocated.

2. Then, TWGSB will split these 300 pupils into 210 for the Tunbridge Wells site and 90 for the Sevenoaks site, based on distance from their home address to the sites.

Yes I think they're required to keep allocating on the basis of distance from the main site under the rules of being allowed to open an annex. It's part of it being an annex not a new school, which isn't allowed.
