Is there any kind of scheme for reduced rate 'Scholars' season tickets? The annual child rate season Blackheath - Tonbridge ('NOT HS1 NOT UND') appears to be just over £2300, or about £370 less if just for the length of the school year...

Southeastern (or whatever it is now!) do offer a discount for under 16 that significantly reduces the fare. If the child already has a TFL zip card (weekly, monthly or annual) covering zones 1-2+ zones it’s possible to exclude these zones from the SE ticket price. SE use a smart card called a Key that will carry the ticket. You would buy a ticket that ran for the length of the half term. The Key can only be purchased online and if lost it’s best to delay reporting it until it’s clear the card hasn’t been handed in. If it’s lost for good a child’s Keycard has to be reordered from scratch not just replaced.

We found the process infuriatingly complex and the card prone to malfunction.

Edited once to clarify exclusion of overlap between zip card and Key card ticket prices

But the Zip card also charges them a half fare - I don't think it is possible to reduce below that. You can get a season ticket for the number of weeks/days in a term but it's basically a weekly season ticket rate. With the length of school holidays an annual season ticket isn't worth it.

Train fares aren't cheap - from memory a child fare from Orpington to Tunbridge Wells totalled c £1200 over a school year a couple of years ago.

Aside from the commute sounding rather long, there are only 23 places at Judd for the Outer Area so assuming if you are considering it then a very high score has been achieved in the Kent test. If your DS sat the Olaves test and got through to the second round that is probably a fairly reasonable commute in comparison.

DS has a score of 404. We are OOC, CR0.
How many schools can we list on OOC?
We have also qualified for Greenshaw , one of the 60 selective places.
Thanks

This is a really old thread - when you say list on OOC, do you mean the Common Application Form (CAF) ? - how many slots you have depends on your LEA as they all vary

If the CR0' is the home postcode, there will be 6 spaces on the CAF, as the London Borough of Croydon uses the eAdmissions system.
