We didn't get a place....our DD passed the test with flying colours but we live on the border of the catchment.

I'm sorry to hear that, wonderingmum. It must be much tighter this year then - my dd is in year 8 and we live near Sittingbourne and there is a girl in her form from Dover!

I hope you've got somewhere else you're happy with.

Sound as though my friend will have to rethink her master plan.

wonderingmum, that is very sad news.

I have heard today of a couple of people who didn't get a grammar school at all. It's all very hard. This should be a time of celebration for the kids who have passed but sadly not.

So could you tell me please if you or anyone else knows the cut-off, distance-wise, for the Langton Girls and the Langton Boys?

Many thanks

I have heard that a girl from Faversham's got a place, if that helps.

I heard the cut off for the girls is 7.5 miles and the boys is even closer, last year it was 6 miles, I wouldn't be surprised if it is even less this year...

That doesn't square with the Faversham girl getting a place - that's much more than 7.5 miles away.

I thought that! I phoned the Langton and asked them what the distance cut off was...and that is what they told me. Got to wonder about the girl from Faversham though...She may be on the outskirts of Faversham, towards Canterbury?

I notice that the oversubscription criteria for the Langton are

1. Children in care
2. Siblings
3. Health/ social reasons (compelling)
4. Residence within the same scheme of education as the school

before

5. Distance

so it is entirely plausible that the Faversham girl has got a place on any of 1-3

(or even 4 - I can't find any details of how the "scheme of education is defined, except that in the oversubsciption criteria document here http://www.kenttrustweb.org.uk/children ... 09_sec.cfm
Faversham is included in the "Canterbury" RELEVANT STATUTORY CONSULTATION AREA)

In case you're wondering why I've escaped from Solihull to look at this, I went to the Langton myself (ahem) 30 plus years ago - fascinated to see from the website that the school is to move to a new site NEAR THE BOYS!!!
