How to improve Speed for 50 min 11+ papers?

DS is quite good at math, understands the different topics covered for the 11+, and is not particularly slow, however recently the papers he has been using for practice timed 50 min tests, he is not finishing and leaving around 12 questions or so out.
Can anybody suggest ways to improve his speed? Should I continue practice the 50 min tests or should he perhaps try the 10 min tests timed? He is sitting his exam in September.

Ideas gratefully received. :)

How about spliting the test paper into 5 sections - stop after each 10 minutes and see how many questions have been attempted, you will then be able to work out which ones are demanding more time. Once these have been recognised you can decide toeither skip or revise.

Thats a really good idea Reddebs, I shall try that one next. He is not fazed by exams at all, in fact I think he is lacking a bit of urgency! Mr Laidback 8) . Will let you know how it goes.
