Er...after reading the question through a few times I just thought of all the strategies I could use and this seemed to be the best one - algebra never fails!

By the way...that question was on a previous 11+ exam paper - CSSE and my dd has just turned 10!
I got as far as this and gave up. I still have to really sit and read LuluQueen's answer when my brains are working properly. It seems really tricky for an 11year old.

I think that is the sort of question that's supposed to separate the good and the really good in the 11+?
If I were the school, I would definitely set that question to see how certain children cope with it and such.
