Hi there

Does anyone have an opinion if 'Bond Maths assessment papers' or 'Schofield & Sims mental arithmetic' workbooks are better for 11-plus build up through years 4 and 5..?

Thank you for your feedback

I would definitely do the Bond books up to and including 11-12 but not necessarily the Bond more.

The Schofield and Sims Mental Arithmetic books are good for increasing their speed and Basics. I might suggest Book 2 in Year 4 but not necessarily the whole book if the child is very proficient from the word go, then possibly skip 3 and go onto 4 on Year 5. They can get very tedious and children can start to deteriorate due to boredom rather than slipping standards.

Ultimately it depends on what type of exam you have. If it is a normally NFER paper, then Bond alone may be sufficient if there is no huge time pressure. In fact, I think I would post this on your region rather than in the maths section to get a more finely tuned response.
