Maths question help pls - Sequences

Post by pawarmum »

My daughter has a question on her homework i cant solve to do with sequences -

Can any one help me as i cant solve it and so cant explain to her whats happening in the sequence -

310278 ---- 310287 ---- 310782
she needs to fill in the 2 spaces.

we have tried everything that i would usually think of, and at this age most of her homework i see the answer a mile off and so can explain, - but maybe im having a slow day because i have spent nearly an hour trying to figure it and cant

Please can someone see if they can solve it?

the question is from a photocopy of a textbook resource for teachers
Abacus Evolve Framework Edition Year 5

Thanks

Are you sure that it is a sequence? What is the wording of the question? The last three digits have been swapped around
278, 287, 782

other positions could be

728, 827, 872

I'm currently signed off work so may not be firing on all cylinders, but I cannot see a sequence here.

Hi, yes this is puzzling.

It appears that the number 310278 is getting higher but using the same digits so a possible sequence could be:

310278, 310287, 310728, 310782, 310827, 310872, etc

However my sequence above may explain the 2nd blank of your sequence but it still doesn't explain the first blank.

Please let me know if the above has helped or indeed when you get the answer.
