Ive come across the follwing question:
If 4/5 of sams money is £5.20, how much does he have altogether?

I have found 1/5 which works out to be £1.04 then added that onto £5.20 but the answer in the book is £6.50

4/5 of the money = £5.20

divide £5.20 by 4 to find 1/5 = £1.30

So £5.20 + £1.30 =£6.50

Need to divide by 4 and then multiply by 5. You know that 4/5 of the money is £5.20. To find 1/5 you need to divide that number by 4 to get £1.30. Multiply that by 5 to find the whole amount.

4/5of A = £5.20
ie A = 5.20x5/4
A = £6.50
