Hi there. Add the three amounts together 10p + 5p +2p = 17p. Divide 340p by 17p = 20.

So Angela gets 20 x 10p = £2.00

The other gets 20 x 5p = £1.00

The other gets 20 x 2p = £0.40p

If you add up the amounts 10+5+2=17p
How many 17ps are there in £340. It works out neatly as 20

so, Angela gets 20 x 10 (£200)
Maya gets 20 x 5 (£100)
Claire gets 20 x 2 (£40)

Add the values they each get
10+5+2=17
so for each 17p available to be shared Angela gets 10p, Maya gets 5p and claire gets 2p
it works just as well for £'s
i.e. for each £17 available to be shared Angela gets £10, Maya gets £5 and claire gets £2

divide £340 by 17 and you'll get 20
20x10 = £200 for Angela
20x5 = £100 for Maya
20x2 = £40 for Claire
