Hi pls can anyone explain:

Which number is closest in value to 1:-
A) 1.1
B) 0.988
C) 1.009
D) 0.99
E) 1.01

C and E look like the same answer. Pls help me clarify if you know.

1.009-1=0.009 or 9/1000

e.

1.01-1=0.01 or 1/100

1/1000 is smaller then 1/100 so c is closest to 1.

I'll suggest the following steps:

Step 1: Write all numbers in same format i.e. 3 decimal places
1.100
0.988
1.009
0.990
1.010

Step 2: Subtract 1 (if number greater than 1) or from 1 if (number less than 1)

A) 1.100 - 1 = 0.100
B) 1 - 0.988 = 0.012
C) 1.009 - 1 = 0.009
D) 1 - 0.990 = 0.010
E) 1.010 - 1 = 0.010

Step 3: The smallest number in step 2 is the answer i.e. closest to 1

Answer is c
