That makes me feel better - I frequently forget to switch off and go to work and it's still on when I get home!yoyo123 wrote:Thank Goodness he isn't married to me, I left the iron on for 3 days.

Can anyone help me with this q please:
On Monday, Claire bought an apple and banana. The total cost was 57p.
On Tuesday, Claire bought a banana and a pear. The total cost was 56p.
On Wednesday, Claire bought an apple and a pear. The total cost was 69p.
On Thursday, Claire bought an apple, a banana and a pear. How much did Claire spend on Thursday?
Thank you.

Is Wednesday meant to be an apple and a pear?memphis wrote:Can anyone help me with this q please:

You could use algebra, but the easiest way is to just add up what she bought over the 3 days.memphis wrote:Can anyone help me with this q please:

i.e. 2 apples, 2 bananas and 2 pears cost £1.82
You should then be able to work out what 1 apple, 1 banana and 1 pear cost.
Re: could anyone help with this maths question please
There is no need for algebra for this question!
Just note that every fruit appears twice and add up all the costs, as said above.
This is the sort of question I throw in to show students that using algebra is sometimes a long-winded approach.

Re: could anyone help with this maths question please
I just deduced that pear 1p less than apple
Pear 12p more than banana.
If A +P = 69p then A=35p and P=34p
If B+P =56p then B=22p and P=34p
Can then add together A,B and P.
BUT the above answer is easier than my way!
