Hi Guest55,

Did you manage question 25th a?
what answer would you say is right 27th or 28th Dec?

Thanks

Thanks a lot for a method for question 37. Its a tricky question for adults; leave alone 10 yr olds!

For :
41 A
My DD should be AEDFG because it says you don't have to use all the stations. She says that her route is 57MIN.

This is different to AEDBCFG which has a length of 58MIN

41B
57 minutes plus 16mins gets 73mins
Considering that it has passed 4 stations (A,E,D,F) to get to G.
41A AEDBCFG = 7+4+7+18+10+7 = 53 mins, not 58.
41B ABCFG = 21+18+10+7+12= 56 plus 12 mins for 3 stations (B,C,F) = 68 mins.

Thanks a lot Ladymuck.
We were missing some point obviously; rightly explained by you.

As for 41b) why are we not loosing 4 min at station A? Is it because it says that when it passes through the station and A is not passing any station?

Yes, you are "starting from" A not "passing through". Similar questions will look at timetables when you have an "arrive at" and "depart from" time.

A lot of maths questions can often turn on vocabulary. I still remember not being able to visualise what "tiling a chair" meant in order to calculate the relevant forces when it appeared on a key exam paper.

PS- mum2016, I'm still getting 27th Dec 2002 for Q25a. Mainly because counting backwards from 5th Jan to 4th Jan, would be 1 day and not 2 days. The question states that Amelia was born exactly 9 days earlier and thus if it were 1 day earlier, that would be the 4th Jan, and so on... making, it 27th Dec for 9 days before the 5th Jan.

Group 1
9. DD answered as 89, 71. I understand 87, 75 is possibly better but isn't there a chance that 89,71 is also right as repeated pattern of -7 and -4 with working to show the method?

100 (-7) 93 (-4) 89 (-7) 82 (-4) 78 (-7) 71

also Group 1

24. (d) Paralleogram has no line of symmetry.
I would do either
trapezium with one line of symmetry(isosceles trapeziums).
(i.g. base 3 and 7, height 2)

or

kite (i.g. diagonal 5 and 4)
