Can anyone help solve the below maths question:

On a Monday morning, a teacher asked a class of 25 boys whether they had taken a bath or shower during the weekend. Eighteen boys had a shower, 10 had a bath and 3 had neither and were very dirty. How many boys had taken both a bath and a shower.

Thanks

25 in the class - first subtract those who had neither, 25 - 3 = 22

Some boys have been counted twice [ie had both a shower and a bath]

18 + 10 = 28 but there are only 22 boys that we are talking about.

So 28 - 22 = 6 so 6 have been counted twice and had both a bath and a shower.

[Rather a silly question as who can imagine any 11 year old boy wanting BOTH!!! ]

These are usually best done using a Venn diagram but I cannot draw one on here ...

depends on their age, some will spend an hour in the shower and some will not even realise that there is no hot water after a week- long boiler breakdown....
