Another maths problem

Post by Guest »

Please can someone help me. I'm no mathematician but I worked out the answer to the following question. My friend's husbad who has a hundred degrees disagrees with me.

Robbers leave a jewellery shop at 2-00 am in their get-away car travelling at 60 miles per hour. Ten minutes later the police leave the shop in hot pursuit, travelling at 80 miles per hour.

How far have the robbers gone at the moment the police begin their chase?
At what time will the robbers get caught?
I get 10 miles and 2.40am.

Police begin 10 minutes after robbers leave - 10 minutes is one sixth of an hour so the robbers have gone 10 miles.

The Police are going 20 mph faster so will take 30 minutes to catch up the 10 miles - ie will catch them at 2.40am
