DD did the following question:

Can you find a four digit number which is reversed when multiplied by 9? ie ABCD x9 = DCBA. She worked it out to be 9801. She asked me if there was anyway to get to the middle numbers in a quicker fashion?

Again its practice and being familiar with the properties of the 9 times table.

1 x 9 = 09
2 x 9 = 18
3 x 9 = 27

Look at the pattern in the tens and units digits ...

I love patterns!
My maths club and I spend ages exploring them!

Maybe something to suggest at school? NRICH has plenty of material for a club. Also the Primary Maths challenge has some good [free] materials.

Thanks Guest55. School do a maths club which DD was invited too but they tend to be for Years 4/5 as they are too busy with the Sats in Year 6.

We have maths club for children who just need a bit of a boost. We play games, do maths crosswords and solve riddles, use the iPads to play logic games and generally enjoy ourselves, while (sneakily) learning to love the subject.

Sounds fun yoyo123. Would have been just the tonic for me at school. Might be better at Maths if I'd had that kind of support in school.
