My daughter has been given a chapter of an old Maths book to look at prior to her university interview. She understands all of it except this question, and has worked out the following. It's important to use the substitutions given. I'll post on the 6th form and Maths forums too. Any help would be great as the interview is tomorrow!

Try substituting for tan^2 theta ....
