Maths Speed

Post by gulat »

Hi All

DD is preparing to take her 11 plus 2018. Appearing for Berkshire and Bucks.

I was looking for some advice/ suggestions on how to improve her confdence and speed in Maths.

She knows her KS2 topics but lacks the confidence to apply it. Given enough time she would get all the problems right but under time pressure would not complete even 25% of the paper

Any help, advice and books greatly appreciated

Have a great bank holiday weekend.

How is her mental arithmetic gulat? Is she secure with multiplication facts and number bonds? Often insecurity in this area can slow children down.

Otherwise it is a matter of practice makes perfect.

Take the time pressure off.

Get her to talk when she is tackling a problem so you can understand where her problems arise.

I think you may have hit the right spot with her mental arithmetic skills. Another area that I see her slowing down is in unit conversions. How do I go about improving her mental arithmetic skills? I will get her talk when she is tackling a maths problem to spot if I can see any other weak spots.
