Maths test block

Hi, I wonder if anyone has any advice? My son is taking GL 11 plus soon, and he is a bright boy when it comes to maths - one of a few children in his year who go out for extension maths, so clearly doing really well at school. Teachers are encouraging us to go for this and seem really confident in him. But he seems a have a bit of a block when it comes to the actual 11 plus tests. When he goes through questions with us, his understanding is good and sees where he has gone wrong very quickly etc., but somehow can't translate it to the actual test. He is now in the place of acing VR and English but just seems to have this block with the maths paper. Has anyone else experienced this? It's clearly not about his brain, and I wonder if something needs to click about the questions or something? I'm worried that he now is lacking confidence cos he knows it's his weakest paper so it's even worse! Can anyone give any advice on this? Thanks loads
