Nfer 11c Question 48...can you help??

question has a hexagon, side measures y, centre to flat side = x
which is\formula for the area of this shape?
answer is 3(xy).
can you help me explain this??

A hexagon can be split into six triangles if you join the vertices to the centre. Each triangle has area half (xy) ... so 6 x this is 3xy.

Thank you so much!
I was a bit thrown by the fact that the line goes from the middle to half way on the flat side if you see what I mean.

It has to to show its perpendicular to the base (side of the hexagon)
