My daughter is at QEHS and has heard a rumor that they are changing the 11+ exam there to English and maths - does anyone know if this is true?

My DD is in Year 7 and she had to do a computer based test the other day which the school said might replace the 11+. "They were trying it out" :!:

So discussions must be underway.

I understand the Consortium have discussed changing the 11+ to the CEM tests for 2016 entry. I believe cost and some change with how the test is funded has prompted this.

My DS is in year 7 and we got a letter about some tests, but I didn't take much notice. DD will be 2016 entry if she wants to go. I'm going to have to take more notice now aren't I? Is there anywhere I can read up or follow to find out if they are going to change the system - or is the best place to look on here? :-)

My ear is not near enough to the ground any more, so to speak, so it would be helpful if anyone who gets to know anything definite before this is publicised could post on here.

As the test is part of the admission arrangements for a school any change has to be consulted on before it is enacted so one would expect those consultation admission arrangmements to appear on the school websites and on the Lincs CC website in the year before they take effect. Consultation has to be for 8 weeks and has to take place between 1 november and 1 March of the year before the arrangements are to apply. So for 2016 entry consultation would have to be complete by 1 March 2015.

The financial background is one possible reason for the push for change. This is a bit from an LCC explaining changes in school funding which came into play last year:

1. What are the main changes to the way schools are funded?
The main change is that the number of formula factors has been significantly scaled down. There are now 12 specific formula factors that have been defined by the DfE (detailed later in the document) for the primary and secondary sector (maintained and academy schools).

........

11+ Procedures
This formula factor will end. The funding for this factor has been ring-fenced to the secondary sector and re-distributed through AWPU.

Thus, whereas schools used to receive funding from LCC according to the numbers taking the test, this has now disappeared and the sum has been swallowed up in the general amount distributed to all secondary schools according to the funding formulae.

Thank you for the reply. I will try and keep an ear out now.

And for those of you sitting up last night waiting for the post, sorry about posting about a less immediately relevant question. I hope you have had the news you need.

It's only a year since I went through it. Tactless or what?

My penance will be to try and help some friends with an appeal. If they decide to go that route. I have properly remembered the stress now.

I think it was 'stocky' who posted on this the other day. She mentioned the VR exam changing to multiple choice but i dont recall anything about the English or maths being mentioned.
