For reasons best known to them, Rochester Grammar claims in various forums that they are not super selective. What I think they mean is that there are several specialist categories before the large majority of applicants are placed in rank order according to aggregate scores in the Medway Test. That is super selective in my book!

I think the things you mention are exactly the reason they don't class themselves as SS...

The Schools Adjudicator has just ruled against Rochester Grammar School's oversubscription criteria for 2019 entry and they have swiftly changed these on the school website. However the Medway Council site still contains the old rules: https://new.medway.gov.uk/media/1520/rg ... 019-20.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Section 2 is the most important change as the number of additional girls eligible to be admitted by this criterion who will not have achieved the Medway Test scores of the large majority will sharply reduced.

Those who qualify by this route will arrive in an ethos that is highly elitist and unforgiving to those who can't keep up academically.
