If you go to review and are unsuccessful an appeal panel may be unable to consider any further evidence that you have to support your case. They will only consider if the review was fair, consistent and objective. It is therefore important that you consider what factors caused your child miss the mark.

If your child underperformed on the day but otherwise has a brilliant portfolio of work at school and has school support - then a review may be a good option.

If you want to supply other non-academic evidence, extenuating circumstances then an appeal (without review) may be a better option.

If you decide to request a review of your child's test results
it is important to note that the Appeals Panel will only be
able to consider whether the review was carried out in a
fair, consistent and objective way eg whether the same
type of evidence was used in all cases. Only if there is no
evidence that this has been done may the Panel then
consider any factors which you contend may have affected
your child's performance and any evidence you wish to
present to support your claim that your child is of the

The review will not consider anything other than academic evidence provided by the school. Therefore if you have additional information that you wish presented you will need to consider your options most carefully.

Last year Medway was successfully challenged that review was unfair but this year they may have made sufficient changes such that a challenge would be unsuccessful.

Catch22 springs to mind

If they are only considering the school evidence, then why are they asking parents to complete a form asking for information about why they feel that a review is appropriate? This smacks of misleading the parents into believing that the info they provide will be considered when it won't be and is deceit as the letter which accompanies the form says that the panel will be given the form in addition to the school work.

I think that removing the parents involvement from the review stage and doing it the Kent way where it is classed as Headteacher Assessment is fairer. That way if the assessment is not successful an Appeal can still take school work into account.
My advice is for those considering a review to ensure they have FULL school support that the childs school work is of a high standard.
