Howard school and rainham mark open days

I took my son along to both who has special needs. (only social skills) We looked at rainham mark as it has reputation of being a school of excellence. The class rooms were spacious and clean (thats why i gave it a 0.5!!) however i was not impressed with their attitude to special needs. The school only has 3% of children in all of the school with statements or school action plus. I asked if he would be given the care that he needs but from the impression of their faces, i knew this to be a problem. We walked into a science lab as it is my sons favourite lesson. but was told we had to wear goggles. my son who was not sure about this, was told sternly by the teacher that "if he was coming to his class he would make sure he wears them". I told the teacher that my son has special needs and was feeling a bit apprehensive. The teacher then gave him a look of impatience. We left the school felling very let down.
The howard school was not very clean and had a few pieces of glass missing in the doors, but we overlooked that. The guide who took us round was very polite and well mannered. He gave us the impression that he loved being at he school. We looked at the work books and these were also to a good standard. The school has a higher proportion of special needs and know how to support these children.
My son will be looked after by the howard and i feel better to have looked at both schools. He will be in the grammar stream, which has fewer pupils in the classes. Although the school only produces less GCSE results, the children who want to learn will succeed.

We took our DD back to RGS on Saturday morning for open morningand it was a great experience. We'd already submitted our SCAF the day before, as we live in Kent, the visit to RGS simply reinforced our decision and we now feel 100% confident that we made the right one.
The open morning at RGS was brilliant (particularly, if like us,you have a love of food), loads of food to try in the RE classroom and Latin. Lots of experiments to get involved in in Science, questionnaires to fill in etc., etc., a really great experience and the Headteacher's talk was very impressive!!
