Northern Ireland exam confusion.

Hello folks
Please can someone advise me? I am the sister of a P.6 pupil who will be sitting what was formally the 11+ in November. As far as I am aware this is the first year without the actual 11+ exam. My mother has been told that the schools are not to provide any formal teaching in relation to the new exam this year. Apparently this has come from the eduaction authority for Northern Ireland. To make up for this the students have been given masses of extra weekend homework to make up for what they are missing out on in school. The parents are going crazy as they feel the children should be given the same treatment if they had been sitting the actual 11+ exam. Some schools are saying their hands are tied while other have been giving the pupils past papers etc. even though they are not supposed to.
Can anyone shed some light on this please? I do not live in N.I more so getting home at the minute to do some digging myself is not possible.
My mother is not fully up to date with the whole exam process, nor am I so any help would be great!
Also where can I get past papers on line that will represent the exams the children will be taking in 2009. Its no longer the 11+ but all information I have found is still refering to the exam as the 11+.
Thank you.
