Calderdale scores

Post by HolandD »

Hi
I've not posted on here before. My DD took the Calderdale test this time and I wondered if anyone knew why the scoring was so different to previous years. I know the English exam has been added this year, but in previous years the scores seemed to have gone above 200 and this year's scores are much lower (my DD scored 118.65 but achieved a ranking of 132). I'm just curious how it's been scored this time because there seem to be more questions than marks available this year!
Thanks x

I was wondering that too - I think you can attribute most of the reduction to the fact that verbal reasoning was a 50 minute test and is now 30 minutes (so less questions) and also it used to be double weighted and is no longer? The writing and maths timings are the same and the English reading has been added. Can't see anywhere the actual breakdown/marks available though.

That's an interesting question! The Maths paper is still 40 questions in 30 minutes, and used to be converted to a score out of 70. So if they did the same this year with a 35:35:30 allocation of points between maths:english:vr that would give converted marks of 70 for maths, 70 for english and 60 vr. That would give a total of 200 though? I am sure one of the schools will reveal the scoring method if asked!

It would be interesting to know, because from what I've heard there are very few points between places, have heard from a friend there is only 10 points between 400 places which seems a lot tighter margin than last year.

I too would be interested! I'm presuming the score is also age weighted? Or do I have that wrong.

I can add another couple of scores to show how tight the marking is

113.25 - 239
125.65 - 23
