do you mean maximum marks? because it is a standardised result, the score you have is not "out" of anything and 196 will have been set at the elevel of a percentage of the in area children

The out of catchment places are allocated on distance not score
1. Looked after children and all previously looked after children for whom the school has been expressed
as a preference. Previously looked after children are children who were looked after, but ceased to be
so because they were adopted or became subject to a child arrangement order or special guardianship
order. This includes children who appear to the Admissions Authority to have been in state care outside
of England and cease to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
2. Children who appear to the Admissions Authority to have been in state care outside of England and
cease to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
3. Children the Authority considers have special social or medical reasons for admission.
4. Those children whose home address1
lies within the catchment area for Year 7 entry as defined by
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC).
5. Children of staff [employed for a minimum of 2 years or to fill a demonstrable skill shortage] at the
school.
6. Those children whose home address lies outside the catchment area for Year 7 entry as defined by
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC)

Within each of the priorities above the following sub-criteria will be used in order of priority
1. Children with a sibling at Ripon Grammar School1
2. Those whose home address is closest to the School2
(measured using an electronic mapping system)
