Lockers - year 7

I received the email about lockers at Crossley Heath yesterday. My DS says he doesn’t need one as he carries his bag around with him, plus his P.E. Kit on occasional days. He has stored his coat in one when the weather is cold, however.

I’m in two minds about it at the moment. £30 seems a lot if you’re not going to use it and the school say they want the space in the corridors, rather than cluttering up the place with unnecessary furniture. I’ve asked him to see if he can pair up with a friend as £15 seems more palatable and the code should work for two! He’s not at the GCSE stage where he may want to store text books either, so things might change.

I would imagine that most people will pay it ‘just in case’. I would have preferred the explicit statement that the money will benefit the school.

I like the idea of doubling up if its only going to have his coat in it! Like you say, you can share the combination code.

I wonder if the new locker system only applies to certain year groups, we've not had an email for our youngest who is currently in year 9?

Not in your area, but at DS’s school they get a free locker in Y7 but nothing from then on. DS1 did put his Games / PE kit in when not required, but DS2 hasn’t used it at all. Don’t really think that DS2 has missed having one for the last 2 years.

That would mean that younger students would get the offer to pay for a locker but older ones wouldn’t. Would they get them free, or be denied them? It sounds rather odd.

Seems odd - I assumed from the wording of the letter that this was a school wide initiative. Perhaps the emails are going out in stages?

In light of Hebden not receiving a letter about lockers, I found out yesterday that I didn't get sent an email in March asking if my child was interested in the Mandarin Chinese programme, and to register interest by 30th April!

Speaking to other year 7 parents to be, another one of the parents was also not sent the email (so 2 of us out of 7). Luckily neither of our children want to do Mandarin Chinese but that's not the point. I hope that this is not a signal of things to come!

Still no email! I will let you know if we do hear anything. I'm not aware we have missed getting emails in the past 5 years (but I guess I may never know if I was missing an email! ) We got the email today however about the consultation regarding changing the school hours from September, it would work better for us with the same finish time every day and an earlier 3.10pm finish suits us too, it would mean less time for me hanging around after work in Halifax before I can drive everyone home!

Oh dear, Mum of two. At least they didn’t want to do it but it does highlight a flaw in the comms system. Makes these forums invaluable!

We also got the mail about the shortened day. I’m happy with the changes as my DS has a long bus ride but it will mean less time to socialise with school friends. He’ll just have to find some closer to home.

Strange Hebden that you didn't get it.

I've had an email reply saying yes they have all my contact details so that's not why I didn't get the letter. I have asked why but not expecting an answer!

I've set up a WhatsApp group with my DS friends who are also going to Crossley and one has a DS already in the school and another who has relations in the school. We are now keeping each other abreast of any communications so we hopefully wont miss anything.

I heard about the changes to the school day - I don't think it was sent to pending pupils/parents but I think its a good idea. My only concern is that there is enough time to get lunch in a shorter lunch break but I don't know how busy the canteen gets.
