Trafford Primary Schools-entry into Grammar School

I am very new to the world of Education as my little boy is only about to start Primary School and we are looking around local schools. Just wondering if anyone can advise how important it is to consider the % of children who go to Grammar versus non selective.
I know there are lots of other things to consider which we will and the Schools don't tend to prepare students for entrance exams/parent choice etc BUT I would like to think the school I chose had a reasonable number go to Grammar, not sure what this is however!
Also if any forum members have experience/knowledge of English Martyrs in Urmston and Flixton Infants/Juniors in Flixton that would be great,
thanks!

Hi

My DD attends UGS and there are pupils from Flixton but few from English Martyrs ( probably because they tend to move on to Ambrose/Loreto). The numbers passing UGS from Flixton vary considerably - probably a combination of numbers entering the exam, ability and tutoring. There seem to be few state schools in Urmston/Flixton/Davyhulme where more than 10 pass each year hence the need to fill places out of M41 each year.
I suggest you ask the schools about destinations of leavers when you visit. The % pass rate of those who take the exam may be helpful too.

Thanks very much for your reply was very useful.
The pass rates do seem low but like you say it could to due to various reasons.
Flixton is our preferred school and fingers crossed will be best choice.
