St Ambrose Appeal

I have a DS at St Ambrose in Yr7 now. His younger brother achieved a very high score in his test (380), plus he did pass for another Grammar but we put St Ambrose first. For many, many reasons I would want my sons at the same school. This year St Ambrose filled all it's places with Catholic boys. We are not Catholics and so my younger son was allocated a place at the other Grammar (higher up the league table as it happens) for entry in September 2013. I chose St Ambrose as we are practicing Christians and wanted a Faith school. I notice that boys that didn't achieve the pass mark are sometimes successful at appeal because they have a brother at the school already. Can I find out the numbers involved? Fraternity and sibling support are clearly important in this School, no less so in the case of non Catholics surely? My younger son is distraught and my elder son is simply angry. Does anyone know what the appeal body would make of this?

I know of one boy who is currently in year 7 who was offered a place in those circumstances. Trafford resident, non Catholic, didn't pass but has a brother at the school. I'm presuming this place was offered after appeal but I don't know what formed the appeal but I would imagine having a brother already at the school would have been part of that appeal.

Sorry, not very helpful I know and different cirumstances to yours but I didn't want to just read and not comment. I wish you and your DS good luck if you do appeal.

A couple of years ago a friend's son did not pass the exam for St Ambrose but was Catholic and had a brother at the school. On appeal he got a place. It sounds like they have only awarded places to Catholic boys this year but on appeal I'm sure your son will have the best chance of getting a place with having a brother at the school? Best of luck,
