Very interesting viewpoint shared by everyone.

BNS--its never too late.....its only one life, and you can still go back to education and missed achievement.

Bns I'm also one of life's bright ones who did badly in school ( much much worse than your fab o levels ) I only hurt myself by kit trying but went to a terrible school was a late August birthday and prob disclaclia ( prob spelt wrong) but have never failed since and have a degree now and am continuing education with a masters ! Though still look over my shoulder and think how the **** did that happen as was denned a failure by all my teachers sigh 70/80s education not the best plus I was one naughty teenager lol ! :P but have a lot of faith in education like you bns and don't want my kids to have tried as hard as me in later life, I want them to enjoy and be encouraged to fulfil their potential as its very easy to make kids feel stupid and it's a hard label to shift ! Am kow having a wine after that x

nay it's too late for me now , plus my brain has regresssed I found some of those NVR and VR questions often had me in knots  in the end DD was teaching me
plus DD has promised me that when she makes it through med school she will buy me a big house with a swimming pool, lovely childish thought even though I am sure she will have her own family to worry about by then, but we can all dream.
no doubt with the new universal credit I will have to get even more overtime to keep afloat
sorry in the last few posts I think I'm coming across as quite pathetic and a miserable old bat, I'm not really, actualy I'm quite happy in myself and my life at present :)
and as my granma used to say "it's ok to make mistakes but not to learn from them really is pathetic"
so I have no intention to allow my daughter to do the same as me . no b----dy way

WHAT A WASTE
Dont get hung up about it bns. All a good education can ever do is give you choices. Is your life really any worse than someone on a six figure salary working 70 hours a week?

yes you are right but it sounds good to me :?:
I already work 50hrs a wk doing 2 jobs, the reason why many of post are are at odd times is because I have just finished a night shift! after having done a day shift.( do you really think only professions work 70hr+ a wk and should by default earn 100k+ by right ;Jeez I thought I was arrogant)
I have no excuses though "I made my bed and now have to lay in it" it was my choice I do not look at others with envy but respect, thats my whole point.
BTW I had fantastic time gigging around the country in the 80's and 90's doing what I wanted to do ,thinking I was so much smarter then anyone I had ever met , but I was wrong, sooooooooooo wrong, and at what cost ,such hubris?

Wind your neck in, valmont was being nice

Life's not a money accumulation game, all that fun you had in the 80s and 90s is currency of a far more precious kind - friendships and memories that are yours forever, recession proof.

Yes you are right I do have an unfortunate habit of getting on my high horse from time to time( I am fully aware it's not just the hours worked but also the responsibility and hard work it takes to get to the "top")
I have no problem getting a "dressing down " when my arrogant side comes out (sorry Valmont).
I do respect your opinion even though I my disagree with some of your comments from time to time, but I find your posts interesting .I think we would get along in real life ,I can tell you do not "suffer fools" but I warn you I'm no shrinking violet myself
sorry pickle's this post has grown legs of it's own, hope things work out
if you have not done so already it may be better to direct your enquiry on the "appeals forum" there are specialist posters there to help you, BEST OF LUCK

Wowzers :D

Some very interesting viewpoints!

Back to my dc...I have asked in the appeals forum but I was hoping that maybe someone had been through the appeals process in Trafford.

Anyway, I've decided that we've nothing to lose by appealing (we won't tell dc though) but I'm totally dreading it! If I don't do it, I will always feel like I should've done.

There was an awful lot of disruption in his exam room that day (which I and others did complain about at the time) but his local review notes say that the invigilators report does not correlate with this. His notes also say he got the initial, easy questions wrong on some or all elements of the test. I think this was him struggling to get into the paper through nerves/distraction.

He's now a mark off a level 6 in Maths in his practise SATS so I'm going to go for it and see what happens.

Many thanks for the responses.

Pickle.

Good luck Pickle.

One question I wondered, is I am aware some (not 100% sure which ones) grammar schools in Trafford offer a review so if I've got it right a child who didn't qualify can perhaps get a head teachers report, can look at special circumstances etc before allocation day. Don't know if you need to be within a certain amount of the qualifying score. Anyone know reasons why a school wouldn't offer a review type process? I understand all schools can possibly do their own thing but just wondered why some schools offer this opportunity and others don't.

Hi Ladybird,

I'm new to all of this but I think that UGS is the only one to offer a 'local' review.

I'm not sure why this is. I wish that I'd realised that undertaking a local review could prevent you from 'officially' appealing to an independent panel because no matter how strong the academic evidence is now, if they feel the first review was conducted fairly, you don't get to submit extra info. Also, I gather the local review panel is made up of people with a strong connection to that particular school so i.e. the head teacher so they're not independent.

Personally, I wish I'd just waited until now.

Bet I've just confused you!
