Sale Grammar OOC mark

Hi everyone,

We were very disappointed when we heard that our DS did not secure a place at SGS with a mark of 373. There are figures here on this forum for OOC boys for Alty Boys but not for Sale Grammar. Would appreciate people post their experiences with Sale Grammar this year.

Also we have heard "second round of offers". How does this work? Do we need to do something or schools come to us?

Regards

Hello minnosh,

Very sorry to hear that your DS did not secure sale grammar.i am also quite suprised. My DS, scored 380+ for Sale, and we placed it as our 3rd choice, only because transport was diffcult for us. However i thought my DS stood an equal chance of getting in.

Perhaps they have filled all places with catchment children....

Which area are u in. Did you get ur second choice.

Good luck with appeal and let us know how you get on.

Take carr

Hi Oshosh,

Has your DS been offered a place at SGS? You say it was your 3rd choice. For us it was 2nd and we have been offered a place at our local school (last choice). We are only 3.6 miles away from SGS. Considering last year's last place offered is and I quote "Last place offered to a pupil outside the catchment area with a score of 344 living 4.67 miles from the school" and this year 373 score living 3.6 miles from the school doesn't get an offer would be quite a jump and just doesn't make sense. Scoring is not based on real performance but relative performance to the best score. So there should not be a significant difference from last year.

Or are we missing something?

I thought for ooc, places were based on score not distance and that distance only came into play for the last place. I have heard that Sale have fewer ooc places in comparison to Agsb places, but even so would have thought 373 was comfortable. I am very confused over some of the high scores not being offered places??

No Minnosh,

Ds got his first choice of AGSB, with a score of 380. I was just reflectling and thinking out loud after i read ur post, that we wouldn't have put Sale as third choice if we had known there was no chance of getting a place. I did the Form in the best way i could, to put the schools that we seriously considered and there was an equal chance of getting in all of them. Thats why i was so suprised that your Ds did not receive an offer.

I hope things turn out well for you. Keep us posted.

Come on people! Those of you who are out of area and been offered a place (or not offered) at Sale Grammar, could you write your child's score so that we can make a comparison and say whether or not our son with a 370+ pass mark should have been offered a place or not. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This morning we rang Sale admissions. Apparently they offered all their places to those in the catchment area this year! That's why we haven't got a place. We have put our name on their waiting list and hope for the best.

Hi Minnosh
I was just wondering with that high score -shouldn't your DS would qualify for the second preference.
All the best
