This year (2017) CEM is hard compared to Last Year (2016) ?
Hi all,
I have noticed based on this post : https://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/forum ... 4&start=10" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
that last year CEM was much easier than this year (2017) CEM ? what do you think ? in fact this year around 360 childrens passed in all of AGS, Urmston, Sale etc.
I was thinking that University of Durram purposely made CEM harder this year (2017) becasue of last year was easier for childrens .

It is irrelevant how hard or easy the test is, because CEM standardise the score for the cohort who take it. This ensures that the same proportion of kids "pass" each year, regardless of whether one year the highest mark is 90% or another year the highest mark is 45%...that is the point of standardisation.

My daughter goes to a outsanding primary in Trafford, and one of the the parent in the shool told us that last year or before more than 90% of students passed for CEM within their daughter's class, but for this year only few passed within the class.
so this stats tells us passig rate is low by this year.

All that tells you is that the DCs at that individual primary school did not do as well compared to the rest of those taking the test.

Please, please, please take a look at the many threads on standardisation in the CEM test. I can assure you that what Tinkers says is right.
ALL you can deduce from that is that children in other schools did better than the children in your school. Your school had a low pass rate, because the children in your school did not do very well compared with children in other schools - who did better - you may not want to hear it, but that is fact.
The pass rate in your school this year may be lower than last year in your school, but the pass rate over the entire cohort in your area would be the same as last year, and the year before and the year before that and the year after next and so on. That is what standardisation does.

Standardisation eh... surely that means the standard stays the same...i.e. The standard of the exam, not the standard of a particular school.kenyancowgirl wrote: Please, please, please take a look at the many threads on standardisation in the CEM test. This link : https://www.trafford.gov.uk/residents/s ... istics.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
shows the stats for Sale Grammer School Admission for 2017 , and that shows around 747 students qualified ,
But for this year CEM exam only around 350 who qualified for Sale grammer. so defineetly qualified students rate went down.
'kenyancowgirl' mentioned that same proportion of students get passed year , but looking at the above link stats doen't reflect that .

That's just ONE school - isn't this test for more than one?
