Hi, looking for a recommendation for a tutor for a child who will be starting Y5 in September in Altrincham area. Someone can come to our home for 1 to 1 basis is preferred but will also consider Group working in a tuition centre. Prefer paper based learning and not computer based.

Anyone has tried Explore Learning or KIP for 11 + prep? Any feedback please.
Welcome if you are new to the forum!

We try to keep the forum as safe as possible - we don't allow tutors or tutoring organisations (other than school/PTA and non-commercial organisations) to be openly recommended, because it attracts posts with fake recommendations ('dodgy' advertising solely designed to solicit business on the internet).
It is also not unknown for unscrupulous competitors to 'plant' negative posts, seeking to denigrate the opposition!

Genuine recommendations from forum members by PM only (private message) are permitted - but be aware of the possibility that someone who appears to be a 'helpful parent' offering advice may not be all they seem! There could be an ulterior motive.

Always treat recommendations from unknown persons with great caution.
However, we have many long standing members - check carefully the date of joining and number of posts - who make a very valuable contribution to the forum. If you receive a private recommendation from one of them, it could be worth considering.

Please let us know if you think anyone is abusing the system by soliciting for business or 'spamming'.
It's easy to report a possible problem - just click on the red exclamation mark that appears with every post and PM: Image

No personal experience of those group based learning companies you have mentioned, but warned off one of them by school staff.

I think the best bet is a word of mouth recommendation from parents of children in the year above / a couple of years older who have been through the process and used a tutor. Unfortunately, such is demand locally for good tutors, they're often booked up years in advance.

Not in your area but we have a large Explore Learning in our local Sainsburies and I make a point of walking past it every time I am in there.

Without fail all the students are sitting at a computer with head phones on.

I have never seen any evidence of anything actually being taught at all by humans.

To be fair there may be classrooms as the back that I cannot see but I don't think so.

I think English Comprehension and Composition has to be explained and cannot be learned sitting at a computer screen. DG
