I understand alty boy ranks candidate by distance rather than score for catchment area candidates... anybody knows about alty girl? For example, if there is no places to accommodate both catchment area girls, a girl scores 360 lives 7 miles from the school VS the girl score 340 who lives 1 mile from school?

The test results will be posted out no later than Friday 18
th October 2019. For your child to qualify for a
place at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, she must gain a qualifying score of 334 and you must
ensure that you have named Altrincham Grammar School for Girls as a preference on the Local Authority’s Common Preference Form. This form must be returned to the Local Authority in which you reside. The qualifying score for students who are in receipt of Pupil Premium is 324. You will be asked to prove your child’s entitlement to Pupil Premium after theexamination has been held.

Oversubscription criterion 4:

Applicants residing within the school’s catchment area. Where the number of applicants qualifying for admission under this category exceeds the number of places available,then priority shall be given to those applicants residing closer to the school (see ‘distance’ in the definitions)

So distance, not score (and there is no separate priority criterion of 'in receipt of Pupil Premium - these girls are just ranked on distance, once they have reached their lower bar for eligibility)

There is no mention of ranking within the previous criteria, presumably because it has never happened that the last place has been awarded within one of them.

Essentially, if your DD achieves the qualifying score, they go into a "pool" of girls who have passed. Once you're in the "pool", the score then becomes irrelevant.

Places are then offered to the girls in the "pool" on distance - starting closer to the school. The girls living closer to the school get priority, regardless of their score. In your example, the difference between 340 and 360 doesn't matter, they're both passes so both girls go into the "pool", and the girl living 1 mile away gets priority over the girl living 7 miles away.
