Results, allocation day - when is it all 100% final???

Guys, can anyone offer their opinion on when everything is final.

I know results of exams are now and in the next few weeks, but allocations in March 2021. Once we have the allocations then, is it a done deal?

At what point do schools come back and ask for additional info like proof of address etc. Is it before or after allocations in March?

It feels like this is a never ending saga and I don't know when I can finally tell my daughter with confidence that she has / hasn't got into one of the grammar schools and it's definite!

My DS started year 7 this year at a grammar. Once he passed the 11+ and since we were well within the catchment of his school of preference, unless there was an administrative error we were all confident that he would get a place. When they allocate a place on 1st of March, you are sent an acceptance letter which you have to fill in and send it to the school within a couple of weeks. I can't remember if proof of address was needed at that point. I think it was later on in the summer....the school required us to include proof of address when returning a welcome pack I think...but I might be wrong.

I think if you pass the test and live within catchment, you can stop worrying. My daughter sat it this year, and as she has sibling priority, if she passes, she is almost guaranteed a place.

Good luck!

This is so useful, no one has been able to offer a proper timeline. I wish your daughter good luck!

Can I ask you a little further? Would you mind just trying to recall if you sent address proof in march with allocation preference, or in the summer? Or was it just a welcome pack received in the summer?

that would mean that i can be sure of what's happening in the summer, and set expectations all around.

My DD also started Yr 7 in September. When she was offered a place on 1 March, the pack included a form to complete to accept the place, and there were quite a few documents that had to be sent in to school with that form to prove residency etc. You get a couple of weeks to complete it from memory.

Great that's helpful. And did you get a follow-up after you sent that back, maybe a few weeks after to confirm a place?

Yes I think what Mandy21 says is what we did. Trafford council (because we are trafford residents) sent us a letter confirming the place on March 1 or the day after and there was a slip that you had to fill in and send off to trafford council accepting the place. I phoned them up and confirmed that they had received this and that his acceptance was registered. The school (in our case Stretford Grammar) also sent a letter with something to fill in to accept the place, plus also asking for proof of residency, like letters addressed to you at your residence. We sent that off too. The acceptances had to be in by mid March.

Later on during spring/summer, the school contacted us again with a welcome pack that they wanted filling in about DS and info with regards to transition days etc. By this point all is confirmed and you can rest easy!

Guys thanks for all your replies. My anxiety levels are off the chart, so this has helped. Bring it on March.

Not really - I think there will obviously be one or two cases where the documentation they send back to school doesn't stand up to scrutiny but I think once you've been offered a place and you accept it (both with the school and Trafford), that's it! I think it can only be withdrawn then if you've cheated the system somehow.

You get an acknowledgment of your acceptance, and then (usually) you/your DD get invited to New Starter events - an open evening and your child goes for a settling in day before the end of Yr 6 (where they find out their form etc). None of this happened this year due to Covid which was a shame.

Thanks! It is a shame that it didn’t happen this year. I hope there’s good news in the near future!

Eagerly checking this board to see the first post that someone has received results. Mid-late November!

Do you get one from each of the 4 consortium schools? Because as I understand each has a different pass mark.

Yes a letter from each school. We got all ours on the same day.
