I am new to this forum so am hoping someone out there might be able to help!
My son is 9 and in Year 5. We are hoping to put him forward for an eleven plus exam, either for Bishops in Salisbury or an independent school.
I am having a panic about tutors as it seems I am rather slow off the mark; I had no idea people tutored so far in advance! I had thought of tutoring him myself as we have the Bond books etc, but I am just not sure I want the next few months to be a circle of endless nagging. I know there are various tutors in Salisbury, but we just can't commit to going all that way (about an hour's drive from our village). Therefore, I am hoping that someone out there can recommend a tutor in the Andover or Whitchurch area.
I know you can't openly recommend on this board, but any messages would be so very gratefully received.
I'm sure he is capable of doing it (his end of Year 4 report was Level 4b for Writing and Reading, 4a for Maths, Reading age 11+), but I think I just lack the knowledge of what we need to get through and I also don't want our relationship to be ruined in the process!
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer....We try to keep the forum as safe as possible - we don't allow tutors or tutoring organisations (other than school/PTA and non-commercial organisations) to be openly recommended, because it attracts posts with fake recommendations ('dodgy' advertising solely designed to solicit business on the internet).
It is also not unknown for unscrupulous competitors to 'plant' negative posts, seeking to denigrate the opposition!
Genuine recommendations from forum members by PM only (private message) are permitted - but be aware of the possibility that someone who appears to be a 'helpful parent' offering advice may not be all they seem! There could be an ulterior motive.
Always treat recommendations from unknown persons with great caution.
However, we have many long standing members - check carefully the date of joining and number of posts) - who make a very valuable contribution to the forum. If you receive a private recommendation from one of them, it could be worth considering.
Please let us know if you think anyone is abusing the system by soliciting for business or 'spamming'.
It's easy to report a possible problem - just click on the red exclamation mark that appears with every post and PM:
