We have our appeal panel meeting on Thursday for West Kirby Grammar School. Does anyone have any pointers re general questions we can expect from the panel ?

Our grounds for appeal (daughter missed by 3 points) were medical (she was having petit mal and we enclosed a letter from the consultant) and bullying at school (enclosed evidence of my wife going to school about it a week before the 11+

Many Thanks

It's ages since I've been on here. How did your appeal for WKGS go?

Oh that's great news. It's a lovely school - my eldest is in year 7 and has made some lovely friends and is really happy there. Youngest will be following her in Sept.

russ, do you mind my asking which of those 2 factors you felt carried more weight with the panel?

I realise this is asking for your impression, but I’d be interested as we felt our appeal panel really had very little understanding of medical factors and found it easier to disregard them than get involved in complex discussions about the likely impact.

Many thanks.

Rob

I would say the medical grounds. The chair of the panel seemed particularly sympathetic (not sure if he had had some experience around this condition) but he said things like no ones knows if she had an episode during the exams and if she lost 30 seconds or so and then had to re read the question that could easily have cost her the 3 marks she was short.

We got a letter from the Consultant, think this helps because I suspect the panels maybe more cynical if it is just the parents saying about medical conditions.

Hope this helps
