Some advice and good luck to everyone this year

Post by Grumpy! »

To hopefully save a few children from problems with the Independent Review Board this year, if any parents think there are any mitigating circumstances for their children they should bear in mind this extract from the Wirral admissions guide:

In some cases, parents may feel that certain factors may
have affected the child’s performance in the tests. If this does
apply, it is important that you should tell your child’s current
headteacher, in writing, no later than 12 December 2008
. The
information will only be considered by the Independent
Assessment Board if the child’s case is referred to the board by
the headteacher (this is confidential).
For each child whose case is referred, the board will see:
the child’s verbal reasoning test scores and papers;
the representations made by the primary school
headteacher, with supporting evidence if necessary; and
confidential information from you and reports from other
professional agencies such as educational psychologists,
social workers, doctors and so on which was provided to
your child’s headteacher no later than 12 December 2008.

It looks like the IRB will sit again this year, and this may then bar you from appealing on anything other than a procedural matter. You will not know if your child is referred to the IRB until afterwards, so you MUST let your child's headteacher know straightaway if there are any matters that could have effected your child's score. If they pass, fantastic, you can relax, if not, at least you've given the school some ammunition to use.

Good luck to everyone!
