Type L conundrum

Post by Otousan »

Hi,
Can anyone help with this.

We have been using the IPS books and have recently completed the type L questions. The instructions show two variations on how to complete these. Our quandry is with question 40 of page 3.3 which is as follows:

HM GK II HG JE The answer is IC.

With this question there are two methods in which we can reach the same answer. Using the first method of:

-1 +2 -1
HM GK HG JE
-2 -2 -2

and the second variant of:

+1 +1
HM II JE
GK HG
-4

The issue is with the second method. The lower letter line is so short (only one jump of -4) we cannot confirm if it is a pattern, i.e if the next jump should be -4. In this case which method is best?

I am sorry to give such a lengthy question but it would be great if someone could help.

Best Wishes

Personally I would go for the first as with the second as you have rightly said there is no confirmation so therefore no pattern. I have vague recollection of Susan Daughtry saying that with certain types the lines are longer thus allowing for confirmation.
