My DD has a question to solve with missing words. It goes: The jeweller took the necklace from the display CAET - we need to add a three letter missing word to CAET to make a proper word. Can't think of anything. THanks for your help.

Dear Nada

If your child cannot work out the word from the clue, look for letters that often go together like ING and letters that do not go together like DT.

In this example AE do not go together, therefore the missing word has to go between these letters.

CA_ _ _ ET

If the test is multiple choice, your child can try to fit the words given on the answer sheet between the 2 said letters. Firstly sounding it out in their head, if not quickly writing it out.

Thank you Patricia for your explanation. It's very helpful, we've already done some practice.
