Hi guys

Question is.

21 (26) 8
27 (36) 9
24 ( ) 6

Answer is 36

Does anyone know how we arrive at this answer?

21-8=13; 13*2=26
27-9=18; 18*2=36
24-6=18; 18*2=36

Hope this is right!

i ask my DS to do this questions she done this way

21+21=42 , 8+8=16,42-16=26

27+27=54 , 9+9=18 , 54-18=36

24+24=48 , 6+6=12 ,48-12=36

is this a right way to do aswell?thankyou.

I would go with red's method as in our county (lincs), these questions have to be completed in 2 stages

Although your method works it is not an efficient way of working out the answer. Reds version is less time consuming.

These types of questions when set by GL Assessment as the test provider, can be 1, 2 or 3 operations/stages.

ooh cheers Patricia, I've been misadvised along the way, as was definitely told 2 stages. Whilst my DD has just passed, my DS sits in Sep 12 so that will help with our prep. Thanks again
