I'm being stupid, aren't I? Please explain this one!
4 (12) 36 2 (6) 18
5 ( ) 45
I just can't see it!!

Re: I'm being stupid, aren't I? Please explain this one!
Ok time to make myself look a fool
4 x 3 = (12) x 3 = 36
2 x 3 = (6) x 3 = 18
so...
5 (9) 45
Just for starter as I'm sure it's wrong but I don't mind giving people a laugh!!
Actually looking at it again it is wrong isn't it?
and just to prove to people why my DS needs a tutor!!
4 x 3 = (12) x 3 = 36
2 x 3 = (6) x 3 = 18
so...
5 (9) 45

Hi Doodles and Manana
It looked like gobbledygook to me when I first saw it I'm not sure I understand the question - but now hanging on to glory via Doodle's coat tails the examples were multiplied up in a two stage process, but missed doing it on the actual question
So 5 x 3 = 15 and then 15 x 3 = 45
So 5 (15) 45

The numbers either side of the brackets are used to make the number inside the brackets. Sometimes you only have to use 1 operation, sometimes 2 and sometimes 3.Manana wrote:4 (12) 36 2 (6) 18

36 minus 4 = 32
How do you get from 32 to 12 = minus 20 [left x 5]
18 minus 2 = 16
How do you get from 16 to 6 = minus 10 [left x 5]
45 minus 5 = 40
40 minus 25 [left x 5] = 15

So if I had followed my own process I would have got the same answer as you. Story of my life really!!!!!!

For: A (B) C
B = A * 3
C = A * 9
B = A * 3
C = A * 9
Re: I'm being stupid, aren't I? Please explain this one!
For: A (B) C
A = B/3
A = C/9
------------
B = A x 3
B = C/3
------------
C = A x 9
C = B x 3
A = B/3
A = C/9
------------
B = A x 3
B = C/3
------------
C = A x 9
C = B x 3

Now that is rather neatprogrammer wrote:For: A (B) C

Hello
For A(B)C
In this case B=2xA+C/9
hope it makes sense.
Thanks

DC17C - Of course it's 15!
With respect, Patricia, doesn't your method over-complicate things?
wellprepared - but that's not true!
If B=2xA+C/2
Then 5 ( ) 45 would be 5 (32.5) 45
Or have I lost the plot?!
Ah, you have since changed your equation!
