GL NFER assessments - what mark should be getting?
DS has done a VR paper this evening - in the 50mins he got 56 out of 80, which I make 70%. Few months til the test but what sort of mark should he be getting. This is for Torbay schools which I understand to be easier (?!) than some of the other grammar schools.

Hi Devonmum! I don't know if that is enough as it's my first experience of the 11+, but my DS is scoring similar amounts (usually between 70 and 78%) For me it seems to be speed that's stopping him score higher. If he could finish the paper I think he'd be nearer 90%. I've been trying to find out roughly what the passmark usually is and have had quotes ranging from 65% - 90% depending on who I ask!

Were you at the Boys Grammar last night Devonmum? Because the head told us that a mark of about 53-57 out of 80 would usually be enough to pass, combined with 2 50%s in Maths and English.

70%+ is the target for Torbay.
Speed should come with familiarity.
Go through techniques, practise and try some papers.
10 mins then 30 mins then 50 mins.
Go over errors. Revisit techniques. More practising then more papers etc.
