11 Plus Exams Forum

Is it just me or does anyone else think GL paper 8 Q5 "pass is to triumphant as fail is to unsuccessful" (with the word inadequate as one of the options) rather bad taste for young 11+ hopefuls. I really didn't like this.

I couldn't make out Q11 number sequence 120, 95, 79, 70, ? please tell if you know it

and I felt that Q16 doesn't really work as it should - rice (rich) reach
sung (?) endure

I think this one has been discussed before though - endure has 6 letters and reach 5 so matching up a bit odd.
Anyway I hope they tweak this set for the future.

120 - 95 = 25 95 - 79 = 16 79-70 = 9

and wouanswers are perfect sqaure roots ie 25 = 5 16 =4 9=3 so next in seq would be 2

Someone may probably explain better

79 - 70 = 9 - sq rt = 3

70 - 66 = 4 sq rt = 2
so on the next sequence you would have to perform 70 - 4 to give you answer 68

but thanks for the heads up....still a nightmare question imho and I have done hundreds of these 11+ questions over the last 5 years!

DS didn't get this one right but then went through a few examples with him. Can be tricky for them. Just have to reinforce the fact they may get a square root sequence !

Hope there aren't too many like this. Seemed obvious when I saw the explanation. I have seen square root ones before but didn't click to this one.
